Been Awhile

I know it has been awhile since I posted. I am used to the old style website, so the whole blogging thing is a big learning curve. Basically, we are still here and much is happening. Since last year, we have acquired more land, installed new ceilings in the Fellowship Hall and Worship area,, landscaped the front of the church, updated all the lighting in the building, and I started my 20th year as Pastor of this Fellowship.

God is uniquely at work in the lives of people and we are looking forward to seeing what he is going to do in the coming years. If you get a chance, stop by, we would love to meet you.

20 Years Already

This month we celebrate 20 years as a Church Fellowship. We have decided to celebrate the hand of God in this ministry over the last 20 years. On November 21st we will be having a special day of celebration. The morning will start with our 9 am Sunday School Hour and our 10 am Worship hour. We will be dedicating our Operation Christmas Child boxes. Last year we collected 100 boxes and plan on doing the same thing this year.

After the service we will be having a Potluck Fellowship for everyone. At 1:30 pm we will have a short time of celebration and testimonies of God’s work over the last 20 years. Please plan to join us as we remember and rehearse God’s goodness to us over the years.

Well folks, County fair is over and school is getting ready to start. This Sunday, everything will return to normal. Sunday School at 9 am and church at 10 am. It has been a great summer and we look forward to seeing everyone again as things get back to more of a stable routine. See you on Sunday.

Summer has arrived!

Just a reminder of our change in Wednesday night Bible Study. During the summer, we spend Wednesday evening as a time of fellowship. Each week we will be at a different home – so if you find us, you can join with us! Seriously, just drop me an email or call and we will let you know who is hosting the Fellowship that week.

We spend much of the summer building relationships outside the walls of the church, so take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy the fellowship of like minded believers in Christ. We will resume our Bible Study in the fall.

After Easter

Winter is now over and we are headed into Spring. We just finished our annual Community E aster Egg hunt and had a great time celebrating the risen Savior. Our attention now turns to Mother’s Day (and our Annual ladies Night Out), Graduations, Memorial Day and Father’s Day. If you do not have a church home, plan on joining us as we grow together in Christ.

Operation Christmas Child 2009

Each year for the last 5 years our church has participated in Operation Christmas Child. This year we sent 99 Christmas boxes to children all over the world. When the boxes leave here, they make their way to one of 6 processing centers in the United States. Iowa boxes go to the Midwest processing Center in Minneapolis Minnesota. In 2008, that center processed over 400,000 boxes. This year they are expecting to process over 500,000. They process an average of 35,000 boxes a day. On Black Friday a group of 11 people from our church went to work at the processing center for 6 hours. By 6pm the center had processed 35,000 boxes and still had 3 more hours left to process boxes. Operation Christmas Child

This year we tried something new by having a packing party after the service. Over the last few months people brought items to pack in the shoe boxes. Sunday afternoon we were able to pack over 45 boxes. Next Sunday we will dedicate those boxes and the others that have been brought. We love the Christmas season and all it represents.

The Carpenter

The Carpenter

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family.

He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. ‘This is your house,’ he said, ‘my gift to you.’ The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we’d do it much differently. But we cannot go back. You are the carpenter. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. ‘Life is a do-it-yourself project,’ someone has said. Your attitudes and the choices you make today, build the ‘house’ you live in tomorrow.

The Burning Hut

The Burning Hut The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forth coming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to me!” he cried. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied. It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves, God has a positive answer for it.
